I wanted to share my Paragard vs Mirena story with you for two reasons.
Wechsel von mirena zu paragard. Although they share the same T-frame shape Paragard is slightly bigger than Mirena. While the latter is 32mm wide and high Paragard is 36mm high. This difference in size may be small but may make a difference in some women.
Tolerability and side effects. As we already explained above Mirena is a hormonal IUD while Paragard is not. Im replying to this topic just to get some more info out there about switching from Mirena to Paragard.
When I swapped mine out I couldnt find much information about it. In short its been way easier than I thought it would be. I expected a few months of cramps irregular bleeding horrendous periods etc and got absolutely none of that.
Im going to switch from the Mirena to the Paragard however before I do so I want to make sure I am making the right choice. Reasons for me switching are as follows. Ive been getting more and more zits since getting the Mirena its just mild only a few zits but I had perfect skin.
So in September I decided to switch from Mirena to Paragard because I was tired of the side effects from hormones. I was nervous about the possibility of heavier more painful periods but decided it was worth the risk. So I got Mirena pulled out and Paragard put in on the same appointment and I had pretty bad cramping for about 8 hours after that.
Ive had Paragard for 2 12 years and dont get acne other than a few pimples on ocassion from my own hormones and as a PP stated. I posted recently in another Paragard thread that it took about a year to a year and a half for my periods to calm down and the bleeding to be more in line with what I thought was a normal period. Hi all I recently made some posts about my unfortunately less than pleasant experience with the Paragard.
I had my Paragard inserted in late August of 2017 and it was removed and replaced with the Mirena on March 1st. Now what Im wondering for those of you who have switched or even just had. Paragard and I did NOT get along.
Mirena and I seven months in now are getting along muuuuch better. Removal is relatively painless and my adjustment between Paragard and Mirena was pretty great. I had a tiny weird period then a regular period that was lighter but still lasted as long as my Paragard period.
They gradually got lighter and. Mirena IUDs are approved to prevent pregnancy for 5 years and ParaGard IUDs are approved for 10 years. But studies show that they can actually last up to 7 years and 12 years respectively depending on your age.
INSIDER spoke with two gynecologists about.
Paragard also works as highly effective emergency contraception so if youre considering an IUD and have had unprotected penis-in-vagina sex in the last 5 days but dont want to be pregnant that could be another point in its favor. Most people who use Paragard have heavier longer or crampier periods especially for the first few months.
Differences between Mirena and Paragard. The main difference between Paragard and Mirena is that Paragard uses copper to prevent pregnancy while Mirena uses synthetic hormones. Both are made primarily of plastic but Paragard incorporates copper wire coiled around the frame.
Paragard lasts 10 years twice the 5 years of Mirenas duration. Dont use Paragard if you have a pelvic infection certain cancers a copper allergy Wilsons disease or PID. If you miss a period have persistent abdominal pain or if Paragard comes out tell your healthcare provider HCP.
If it comes out use back-up birth control. Paragard may attach to or go through the uterus and cause other problems. The Mirena IUD takes up to seven days following insertion to become effective in preventing pregnancy so backup birth control must be used during that time.
The major difference from the Mirena IUD to the ParaGard is the small piece of wire wrapped around the plastic body of the ParaGard and the absence of hormones. This is a difficult call to make because regardless of my IUD experience it is important to remember that everyone will react differently to all birth control methods. I wanted to share my Paragard vs Mirena story with you for two reasons. Mirena is a hormone-releasing system placed in your uterus by your healthcare provider to prevent pregnancy for up to 5 years.
Mirena can also lessen menstrual blood loss in women who have heavy menstrual flow and who also want to use a birth control method that is placed in the uterus to prevent pregnancy. Mirena can be removed by your healthcare provider at any time.

I have paragard.
I like it because there are no hormones and that it is 10 years. I plan to have my tubes tied when I am 25 The insertion didnt hurt but I felt a little crampy for a few days afterward. My periods arent too regular yet but that may also.
